  1. Where are you from originally?  I was born in memphis.  moved to southaven at the age of 3 and never left.  yet.
  2. What is your favorite WOD/movement?  back squat.  I’ve excelled at it and it’s giving me a better back side.    I also love to pull me some sled.  the day I pulled 400# was one of those glory moments.
  3. What is your least favorite WOD/ Movement?  burpees!
  4. What were you doing before CrossFit? walking for miles and miles and miles – for four years.  eating crap food and making a huge cycle of gain, lose, gain, lose.  going nowhere.
  5. How did you hear about CrossFit and/ Desoto CrossFit?  von ralls.  he’s begged me for years to get a barbell in my hands and after four years, I finally complied.  thank you God.  thank you von.
  6. What other sports or activities do you participate in as a family besides CrossFit?  none at present.  but we could if we had time.  the beauty of this questions is that now, with functional movement developing, we can actually physically participate in a sport, and truly enjoy it.  I use to be so obese and inactive, the idea of playing anything repulsed me.  I can go up and down stairs now without hyperventilating.  I walk at leisure just for fun now instead of dread.  I have also begun to incorporate one of my least favorite things.  running.  I’m going to do it until I love it.  this is something I never ever ever dreamed I would be able to do prior to crossfit.
  7. How many times per week do you CrossFit? at least 5.
  8. What is your athletic background?  zilch.  I marched in high school band for 6 years.
  9. Give us some insight as to your thoughts after your first workout at Desoto CrossFit.  I cried all the way there.  wanted to throw up before I went in.  sat in the car until the absolute last minute.  peeled myself off the car seat.  dragged my feet through the door.  sweated my way through basic couch to crossfit movements.  left with an encouraged spirit, new friends, and desire to come back for more.
  10. Do you have any special or favorite Desoto CrossFit memories/moments?  yes!  the open!  all five weeks.  morgan said I really should do it.  I told him no – I’m just a beginner.  he said there was no reason why I shouldn’t and that I could compare progress with next year, that this would be a great baseline.  2017 was my year to conquer fears.  so I knew that was my next big fear to conquer.  I’ve had challenge after challenge thrown my way, and the best way to overcome them is to plow through them.  I was SO OVERCOME with joy to watch my friends completely kick ass and dig deep, to push themselves to the limits these five weeks.  I learned a lot about myself.  mind over matter, and I grew closer to them.  friends became family over those 5 weeks.  I will never forget.  and I will never get over the growth during that time, physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
  11. What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining Desoto CrossFit?  DO NOT QUIT.  do not let your mind defeat you before you begin.  get a great pair of tennis shoes.  an outfit you are comfortable in.  grab your water bottle, a towel, and get your tail up in there.  do it.  don’t think about it.  just go.  work.  do the thing.  change your life.  seize the day.  life is too short and too precious.  it’s time.  do it.  now.  love yourself enough.  go!
  12. What is your eating style?  I’m a glorified vegetarian.  I eat quality meats, bird, fish, and every green veggie imaginable three days in a row.  on the fourth day I incorporate some quality carbs into the mix, fruit, quinoa, sweet potato, etc.  the next three days I get back on my protein and veggies.  two dinners per month I enjoy mindless eating.  that would be a pizza or mexican, margarita, and sugar free reeses peanut butter cups.  when I’ve reached my goal weight, I will readdress the menu, but for now, I’m healthy, I feel great, and this works at shedding fat.
  13. What kind of results have you seen since starting at Desoto CrossFit?  I’ve lost a crap ton of fat.  but I’ve gained muscle!  I’m strong!  I can carry ALL the groceries in at one time.  kidding.  but almost.  I’ve gotten to encourage many with their weight loss journeys.  people tend to seek one out and listen to them when they’ve had successful results.  my blood pressure pill was cut in half with hopes of coming off completely once the rest of the weight comes off.  I can jog – something I’ve never been able to do before.  my mind is more clear, my moods are consistent, I am a new being.  I love life and look forward to the tomorrows.  what was once dark and hopeless is now full of wonder.
  14. What do you do for a living?  RN.  I nurse.
  15. What drives you to be an active family?  I want to dress myself at 90.  and lift some heavy shit.  I want to lead by example.  many in my family are not healthy and I so desire for them to get on board.
